RTK, or Real-Time Kinematic, is a highly accurate method of GPS (Global Positioning System) positioning used in precision agriculture, surveying, and other fields requiring pinpoint accuracy. Unlike standard GPS, which provides positioning data with an accuracy range of about 2 to 10 meters, RTK technology can deliver positioning accuracy down to the centimeter level, typically within 2.5 centimeters.
RTK technology works by using a base station and one or more rovers (mobile units). Here’s a breakdown of the process:
Base Station: The base station is a stationary receiver set up at a known, fixed location. This station continuously collects GPS data and compares it with its known position to calculate any discrepancies, also known as errors or biases. These discrepancies are due to factors like satellite orbit errors, atmospheric conditions, and other variables that can affect GPS accuracy.
Correction Signals: Once the base station determines the discrepancies, it generates correction signals. These signals contain information about the errors in the GPS data and are transmitted in real-time to the rovers.
Rovers: The rovers are mobile GPS receivers mounted on farming equipment or used in handheld devices. As they receive GPS signals from satellites, they also receive the correction signals from the base station. The rovers use these corrections to adjust their own GPS data, resulting in highly accurate positioning information.
Communication: The communication between the base station and the rovers is typically achieved through radio, cellular networks, or satellite communication, depending on the system setup.
The Mobile RTK Base is a state-of-the-art, portable solution designed to deliver centimeter-level GPS accuracy anywhere you need it on your farm. Ideal for operations that require precise, real-time positioning in various locations, this mobile unit ensures that your machinery and equipment operate with unparalleled accuracy, regardless of where you are in the field.
If mobile coverage is an issue in your area, satellite internet is available to install. This can be implemented and integrated with our system to ensure you are covered across every part of your farm.
For further accuracy AgTerra also offer VRS RTK solutions. We are partnered with MondoPin who provide the VRS correction.
The Fixed RTK Base is a powerful, stationary solution designed to provide your farm with continuous, high-precision GPS accuracy. Perfect for operations centered around a specific location or for farms with extensive infrastructure, this base station ensures that your machinery and equipment receive consistent, centimeter-level positioning accuracy day in and day out.
Our fixed RTK can range between 20-30km of coverage, providing you with accurate and reliable coverage across your entire farm.
At AGTerra, we offer comprehensive local installation services for all our advanced agricultural technologies right here, Australia. Our team of experienced technicians is dedicated to ensuring that your equipment is set up quickly, accurately, and efficiently, so you can start benefiting from our cutting-edge solutions without delay.
The Fixed RTK Base has completely transformed the way we operate on our farm. The accuracy is incredible—we’re getting centimeter-level precision in all our fieldwork, from planting to spraying.
